Frances Letitia Ramaley went home to her Lord on May 22. She passed away peacefully at Margaret Parmly Residence in Chisago City. Although wheelchair bound for most of her years in the Lakes area, she was active in church, senior activities, Maple Ridge card groups, Vindauga View activities and even an active participant at Parmly.

Frances (Fran) was born to Frank and Letitia Peterson of Tracy, Minnesota on January 2, 1924. One of only two daughters, she and her beloved late sister Marjorie Ruth grew up poor. Moving from one small town to another her father was a carpenter and farmer. Her mother taught in one-room schools. During the Depression she and her family slept with hot water bottles for warmth which froze before morning. They lived in a log cabin with the chinking missing between the logs. After finishing high school Frances enlisted in the armed forces in World War II working in the office, relaying orders and battle memos.

Afterwards, Fran attended Macalester College on the G.I. bill and met her husband, John Edward Ramaley. They were married in 1944. Eight years of marriage brought no children so they decided to adopt. In May, 1954 they adopted MaryAnn and three years later, James Edward. In 1959 the family moved to Stillwater from St. Paul. John and Fran worked as high school teachers. John later became a high school guidance counselor. Fran was a pioneer in writing curriculum for the first computers used in business education classes in the North St. Paul School District. Fran and John were active in church, neighborhood events, and local politics. Their favorite retirement activities were spending time at the lake cabin, golfing, watching Twins baseball, playing cards with their friends, traveling to Arizona, and enjoying their grandchildren. John Ramaley died in September 1990. Their son James (Jim) died in 1996.

In 1993, Frances took on a second family and raised Jim's children, Key and Mary Ramaley. Then in 2002 she sold her family home in Stillwater and moved to Lindstrom, Minnesota to be near her daughter MaryAnn Jindra. Frances was active in Lindstrom's First United Methodist Church hosting weekly bible studies and playing untold numbers of card games and cribbage games, Fran enjoyed the last eight years in Lindstrom and Chisago City.

Her family wishes to thank Frances's Bible Study "sisters", the dedicated staff at Parmly Residence, dear friends in Stillwater, Vindauga View, and Parmly Residence, relatives who traveled many miles to come to see Fran in the past months, and the family at First United Methodist church for all the love, kindness, friendship and prayer support shown to Frances Ramaley and her family. Fran's faith was a strong testimony to all who knew her, especially her love and the grace with which she endured a painful terminal illness.

Frances Letitia Ramaley is survived by one daughter, MaryAnn Jindra (John Jindra) and their daughters Emma Margaret and Linda Ann Jindra; by her son Jim's children: Daniel Ramaley (Iowa), Key Ramaley and Mary Ramaley (Forest Lake), and Michael Ramaley, (Wisconsin).

Memorial celebration will be 4 p.m., Sunday, June 6 at Lindstrom's First United Methodist Church. Following the service a supper will be served.

Please do not send flowers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the family to help with Frances's end-of-life care.
