First annual Community Foundation Art Dash

Artists donate pieces that patrons want, and community benefits

The Chisago Lakes Area Community Foundation art dash event was a great party and raised money for grants to do projects and address local needs.

The Art Dash was held in the historic lodge Strom Hall, on Green Lake at Ojiketa Regional Park, October 16.

Attended by almost 200 people. The meal included chicken marsala and bison, baby potatoes, mixed greens and cupcakes for dessert. The team at Eichten's catered the event. Selections from WineHaven vineyard, Chisago City, added to the festivities.

During the night's celebration ticket holders had their names drawn and received a sticker from the master of ceremonies. They were to "dash" to claim one of 90 pieces of art offered for the ticket price. Brenda Palmquist, one of the event organizers, said approximately $6,000 was raised for the foundation.

She added that the purpose of the Art Dash was three-fold: to gain exposure for the artists, to allow people to enjoy Ojiketa park grounds and facilities, and to spread the word about the foundation.

The art ranged from paintings, sketches and photography, to pottery, woodwork, even fountains and jewelry.

The Taylors Falls Parks boosters received a $500 grant from the foundation for fencing, which was accepted by Larry Julik-Heine. Lindstrom's Allemansratt Park nabbed a $500 grant for projects underway there. Lindstrom Mayor Keith Carlson and Park Board member John Renaker accepted that grant.

The Chisago Lakes Area Community Foundation is chaired by Tom Hallberg. It was born from an effort to build a permanently endowed fund to benefit community needs and was established in 2008.

Civic organizations, schools, municipalities and non-profits are eligible to apply for grants. As a donor, you can invest with the foundation to support a specific charity or scholarship format you choose; or leave it to the Foundation Board to distribute proceeds supporting area music and arts, social services, environmental or conservation efforts or civic projects. Donations (principal) are invested to generate dividends from which the grants get awarded.
