Joseph J. Stein of Taylors Falls, passed away August 31, 2010 at the age of 83 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN.

Joe was born in St. Paul to Andrew and Elizabeth Stein. He grew up in St. Paul with two brothers and three sisters. After serving in the U.S. Navy toward the end of WWII, Joe returned to St. Paul and married his childhood friend and sweetheart, Isabelle. Together they raised eight children on St. Paul's east side. There he became a well-respected insurance salesman and part owner of the Stein-Carney Insurance Agency. Forty years ago, Joe and Isabelle moved the family to Taylors Falls. He has been an active and faith-filled member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. As his family has grown up, Joe has taken ever increasing delight in his 25 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to his primary focus on faith and family, Joe also enjoyed tennis - both as a player and as team captain. He also enjoyed family fishing and hunting trips, time up at the cabin, and bursting into song at the drop of a hat.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Elizabeth; brothers Andy and Robbie; and sisters Beth and Clare. He is survived by his wife Isabelle, sons Joe (Ruth), Jim (Deb), Tom (Judy), Mike (RuthAnn), daughters Mary Beth St. Hilaire, Kathy (Lowell) Lindo, Margaret Mary (Bruce) Corradi, Eileen Theisen; 25 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, sister Mary Havener, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Friday; Church of St. Joseph in Taylors Falls. Interment St. Francis Cemetery.
