I predict that there will be many questions about the emerald ash borer or (EAB). Peggy Boike has put together a great display on the borer with some informative handouts. In last week's papers they reported that ash trees in the Shoreview area have been affected. As far back as February at the Lindstrom Home and Business Show, homeowners were concerned about (EAB) because they have ash trees. Come to our building and get the updated information.
I predict that there will be questions about the Japanese beetles. Although none of our master gardeners have received calls about them, that isn't the case in the twin city area. Deb Wolk, a Hennepin County Master Gardener, was quoted in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, that her garden is full of them. Deb stated that this is the worst year she has seen and even Deb doesn't know how to get rid of them. They are chewing on her roses and gnawing on tree leaves. Drop in at our building and see if we have a solution to the problem.
I predict that there will questions about the lack of honeybees and monarch butterflies. I don't know if we have an answer, but we will try.
We are putting together a list of favorites of the Chisago County Master Gardeners. It will include favorite vegetables, fruits, flowers, trees, shrubs, native plants, herbs, etc. Please pick a copy up at our building. We are located directly behind the courthouse and next to Poiks' Barber Shop. See you at the Threshing Show.
