Stewardship efforts of Dr. Nelson recognized by annual award
Dr. Nelson was presented the city St. Croix Valley Stewardship Award Monday night by the city council and he'll also serve as grand marshal in next year's parade.
The Stewardship Award recipient is a Lions member and, "a genuinely good man you can always depend on to help," according to Taylors Falls Mayor Mike Buchite.
Dr. Nelson and his family have hosted foreign exchange students over the years, he and his wife volunteer at Family Pathways' food shelf in St. Croix Falls, and help on the Lighting festival committee. His time and energy has been invaluable in developing Pump House Playground on West Street and Cherry Hill Park and he's served on the city parks commission.
The Nelson family includes four children and eight grandchildren. "He is a busy man," Buchite said of the honoree, "yet he still finds time to farm and enjoy his hobbies, one of which is a well known lutefisk chef....we want to recognize all the good deeds this man has done for the city of Taylors Falls."
