Vikings own tri with Fridley and SLP, struggle at Monti Invite
The Vikings opened the season by making mincemeat out of their feline opponents at a home triangular last Thursday, December 1. They slammed the Fridley Tigers 54-18 and crushed the Spring Lakes Park Panthers 57-14.
Monticello Tournament
The Vikings went 1-3 in dual meets in the nine-team Monticello tournament this past Saturday, December 3. They lost a tight one to Annandale/Maple Lake 37-34. The Vikings also lost to tournament host and tenth-ranked Monticello 39-29. The Vikings crushed New Ulm 73-3 for their only win of the tournament and lost to Little Falls 53-20.
Individually, two Viking wrestlers went undefeated at 4-0 on the day: Pat Mork, 160 and Seamus Hunter, 285.
The Vikings will host archrival Chisago Lakes tonight at 7 p.m. at North Branch High School. Last year's regular-season match between these two teams was exciting, tense and controversial, with the Vikings squeaking out a victory. You can bet there will be more of the same this year. The Vikings will then head to Big Lake tomorrow for a tournament that starts at 4 p.m. Next Tuesday, December 13 the Vikings will make the long trek to Mora to face the Mustangs and ninth-ranked Milaca in a triangular that starts at 5 p.m.
