The rest of the celebration I feel went wonderfully. It was really well attended and everyone seemed to be having a great time. The kitty kat races seemed to have a lot more people this year and although the chili contest was eliminated, the warming tent was full the entire weekend. The Rotary snowmobile radar run sure seemed busy, I know my son and his friends watched for hours as snowmobiles went speeds of well over 140 mph.
All of this would not have taken place if it were not for the great Celebration of the Lakes committee. They have worked many many hours over the past year to make sure that the Celebration of the Lakes is a big hit. Greg Shaleen deserves a huge thank you for all his hard work. Everywhere you looked this weekend, you saw Greg. I would call him and thank him personally, but he is probably still sleeping from all that hard work.
I would like to invite you to the Chisago Lakes High School this next Thursday for a wrestling meet. If you have never been to a Chisago Lakes wrestling meet, you are in for a big treat. They usually have quite a crowd to watch our boys wrestle. The team is doing great this year and we have a few boys that could win state titles as well.
The reason I am inviting you to the February 11 match is because Chisago Lakes Wrestling will be inducting Bob Hanson in the Hall of Fame. For those of you who have lived in the area for quite some time, Bob's name is synonymous with Chisago Lakes wrestling. Bob was the head wrestling coach for many many years and was very successful. In his time Bob took his team to state multiple times and took individuals to state countless times. He is very respected in the wrestling field and even more respected as a former Chisago Lakes teacher.
On a personal note, Bob was basically a second father to me. Being good friends with his youngest son, I spent a good part of my youth in the Hanson house. Bob and Katsy are two of the nicest people you would ever hope to meet, and no one is more deserving to be elected into the Hall of Fame more than Bob. Please come out February 11 to honor Bob. I promise you will see a great wrestling match as well.
Last week I told you about "Coaches for Cancer" and their quest to raise money for cancer and Kim Hofmann. On February 4 at the Wildcat girls basketball game and on February 10 at the boys basketball game, they are holding a "Pink Out Night" to help raise money for cancer and for the family of fellow teacher Kim Hoffman who is battling cancer. For a mere $10, you can purchase a pink t-shirt to show your support for Kim and others fighting cancer. The whole goal is to reach $5,000 and if that goal is met, there will be pies in faces as a reward. I failed to mention that you can still make a donation if you are unable to attend the games. Just send a check to The American Cancer Society C/O Kim Hofmann Fund, Chisago Lakes High School, Lindstrom, MN 55045. Thank you for your help.
