For the past several years we have started our Spring Series with pruning apple trees because that's one of the first things that need to be completed before the growing season begins. The pruning class will be held on February 22 from 6:30-8 p.m., in North Branch at the Senior Center.
Jim Birkholz, owner of Pleasant Valley Orchard, will lead the class. He is one of the gurus when it comes to understanding fruit trees. He will show us how to prune young fruit trees, how to remove older trees, and how to use pruning to get the most production from established trees. Most of these techniques can be applied to other deciduous trees species. Please register early as we have had up to one hundred attend this class, some have been back several times.
We will have a booth at the Lindstrom Home Show held at the Chisago Lakes High School on Saturday, February 26 and Sunday, February 27. Come and see us as we always learn something from those who visit us.
Don't forget the 13th Annual 2011 Spring Gardening Bonanza, on Saturday, March 12, at the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church, in Center City. This is our biggest event of the year. Much more information will follow.
We are now on Facebook! Please visit us at www.facebook.com under Chisago County Master Gardeners. Starting next month, we will once again be emailing our Monthly Newsletter. Please call our office at 651-277-0151 to be on our emailing list.
