Chisago Lakes Baptist students celebrate February 'I Love to Read' month

Chisago Lakes Baptist School “I Love to Read” month was kicked off with a reading-themed magic show presented by local professional magician, Norm Barnhart. Several students were invited to help with the tricks, and all were amazed with his skills. Each class participated in an all school read-aloud, The World According to Humphrey, about a pet hamster. Daily prizes were awarded to the first student who found Humphrey, a toy hamster who was hidden throughout the school. Students surpassed the all-school reading goal during February, by 170 percent! They were rewarded with a pajama day, which included watching the movie “Charlotte’s Web” while enjoying popcorn.  Top readers for each class were: Malachi McKinnon (K-readiness, 1,047 minutes), Ben Hoiland (K5, 512 minutes), Malia McKinnon, (1st  grade,  1,158 minutes),  Abbi Berg (2nd grade, 1,375 minutes), Grace DeVries (3rd grade, 1,031 minutes), Hannah Hoiland (4th grade, 2,333 minutes),  Elena Neilson (5th grade, 1,140 minutes), and Jasmine Barnhart (6th grade, 2,036 minutes).  Top readers received a new book and the opportunity to read for a half hour in the reading loft in CLBS’s newly renovated library. A “Read Across America” fundraiser was also held which netted the library a brand new set of books about each states.
Students also participated in their annual Spirit Week.
As a finale to Spirit Week, Girls and Boys basketball teams competed against a school from Prior Lake, and students and families participated in a Walk-a-thon athletic fundraiser at the Mall of America.
