Please come to the Home Show at the High School this weekend; what snow?

Please come to the Home Show at the High School this weekend; what snow?

I hope you had a chance to see the Home Garden and Business circular that came with your Search Shopper this weekend.  The piece highlights various home improvement suggestions for your home.  To go with that, you will find advertising from some great companies that will be at the Home Show this weekend.  Inside the circular you will find a list of businesses that would love, I mean love to talk to you about what they do and what they can do for you.
I sincerely hope you make it out to the show on Saturday or Sunday.  We have more vendors than we have had the last five years.  The one thing that people seem to really enjoy about the home show is the pressure.  By that I mean, there is no pressure on you whatsoever.  Walk where you want, visit booths you want, and if you don’t feel like stopping at a booth then don’t.  Easy and laid back, just like we like it.    The show is filled with great presentations all day long for you to take in.  Kevin Jennisen will sing both days, River City Cloggers will also perform both days.  CL Golf course’s own Todd Kueppers will be doing a seminar both days on SNAG Golf.  Kristine Wriding will be singing on Saturday and Dan Brown will be doing a seminar on fly casting.  Sunday Josie Olson will perform at 2 p.m.
The show runs Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  I hope to see you there!
While at the show, make sure to visit the Chisago Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce to get your raffle ticket.  Tickets are $5 and you will be entered in a drawing to win a brand new Ipad.  Your odds are pretty good, 1-250.  That is pretty good.  You are not limited to one ticket either.  Be warned, my son seems to think it has his name on it, so much he has taken out of his piggy bank to buy a ticket.  You can purchase tickets ahead of the show here at the Press or at the Chamber office.
As I sit here writing this, radios in the office are going crazy warning us of a storm that will rival the Armistace Day Storm of 1940.  Obviously I am not making light of that storm and the casualties it caused, but I am making a point about our present meteorologists.  Maybe because it has been a non-existent winter, which many of you have enjoyed immensely, or maybe it is just something different for them to talk about other than high thirties and zero precipitation they have accustomed themselves to telling us nightly.
I personally hope the storm does come to fruition, but  I am not holding my breath.  We certainly could use the moisture and the lakes could use a boost.  I plan to go to bed Tuesday expecting a normal day on Wednesday.  My kids are already planning their big snow day off.  We will see who prevails.
The citizens of Chisago County have lost a couple of real gems.  Larry Parker, who has served on the city council for Chisago City and as a supervisor for Wyoming Township has left us.
When I first met Larry, I had been on the job for three days.  I was assigned to cover Wyoming Township and clearly had no idea what I was doing.  At the time they were going through some major issues at the township including being annexed by Chisago City.  When Larry figured out who the confused guy was in the audience staring at his notepad, he immediately got up and marched over to me.  I was scared beepless.  He leans into me and says “So you are the new guy huh?”  He then whispers “Don’t worry about any of us here, we only act like we’re tough”.  Ever since then, Larry has been one of the nicest politicians I have ever dealt with.  It has been fun watching him progress as a politician and as a community leader.  I enjoyed every minute that we would visit.  I really enjoyed his quick witted quiet sarcasm.  Larry was a real gem.  He will be missed.
Not to make this into a weekly obituary section, but someone else whom many of you know passed away this week as well.  Robert Rohner. If you have lived her for 20 years or so you would recognize the name, has gone to a better place.  Mr. Rohner (sorry he was a teacher and all of my teachers will always be Mr. or Mrs.) was a teacher and driving instructor for decades.  I had him, my brothers had him, if you took driver’s ed, chances are you had Mr. Rohner.  Mr. Rohner was also a charter member of the Chisago Lakes Lions Club.  An absolute staple of the community that will be missed by all.
I have been telling you all about our new website and apparently you have listened.  Last week alone, we had 22,400 visitors to our site.  If you haven’t seen the new website yet, please go to chisagocountypress.com.  You will find many new features that have made your reading more enjoyable.  You can now place classified ads right on the site without having to call here.
If you would like to subscribe to the Press, there is a button for that.  We have made it as easy as possible to bring you the news in all facets of media.
