The spirit of volunteering is alive and well

The spirit of volunteering is alive and well
The spirit of volunteering is alive and well

With budget cuts continuing, volunteers have become even more important to our schools.  At Chisago Lakes Primary we are blessed to have many parents and community members who put in hundreds of hours to improve and enrich the lives of our students.
Our Parent Teacher Organization is an active group that helps to coordinate efforts of our volunteers.  They provide help for our book fairs, fall craft fair, family fun nights, and other school events too numerous to list.  Each year, they organize our fundraiser that brings the dollars needed to provide the extras for our kids.
Just this year, they have helped to fund two school lyceums, Promethean Boards for several of our classrooms, books for I Love to Read Month and kindergarten round-up, as well as several classroom special projects and rewards. Our PTO parents have even come in to help open the school by washing windows and painting trim.
For the last three years, a volunteer group from Lakes Area Free Church came to our school to paint hallways,  media center, and a few classrooms. This has been a great gift to our schools since custodial cuts happened a few years back.
When we needed a new playground for our youngest learners, our local businesses and contractors came together with our PTO to raise funds, donate money and services, and build our new structure.
Stop by the Primary school any day of the week and you will find parents and other community volunteers reading to our students, practicing math facts with our students, cutting out box tops, counting milk caps, preparing special projects for teachers, or helping with a classroom party.
To all of you who have helped make our school a better place in some way we want to say a great big “Thanks for all you do!”
