Judging by the progress being made on the Peterson Companies redevelopment site; the new company headquarters will probably be ready to open for business before state government has acted on annexing the business site into Chisago City.

Peterson Companies’ parcel on Wyoming Trail,  straddles the border of Wyoming and Chisago City. Land owners MMP Properties Inc. petitioned to annex the whole 7.5 acres into Chisago City,  but the Wyoming city council voted in September 2011 to not support the detachment.

Peterson Companies stated some reasons to put the whole parcel into Chisago City, including the fact their mailing address has always been Chisago City and that adjacent land for future growth is in Chisago.  Their trucks’ logos include Chisago City as the company location.

The new headquarters project was necessitated when the old building burned to the ground. The company worked out of temporary headquarters while planning its rebuild.
Wyoming’s official stance is they don’t want to lose the future property tax revenues from the redeveloped commercial site.

Under state law a disputed annexation triggers a review, involving the administrative law process.   The official case record was “opened” October 28, 2011.  The law requires the annexation issue to be resolved within one year from that date.

The Office of Boundary Adjustments has scheduled a first hearing on the request for detaching and annexation for April 3, starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Wyoming City Hall.

The Office of Boundary Adjustments has three cases that require hearings in the state at this time-- there’s one in Crow Wing, one in Polk County and this one in Chisago County.

There’s also an appeal proceeding between Lake Elmo and Stillwater Township.
