Yet another team off to State; stay close to home this St. Patrick's Day

Yet another team off to State; stay close to home this St. Patrick's Day

What did I say last week?  I said that we very well could be writing about the Chisago Lakes girls basketball team going to state.
Obviously I am no soothsayer, if I was would I be driving around in a 95’ Buick?  I would have won the lottery long ago.  I simply made a safe assumption about one heck of a good basketball team.  Sure enough, they travel to Duluth and beat a good Grand Rapids team on a neutral court.
Congratulations to Coach Walker and his team.  What an amazing accomplishment just to make it to state.  This team is different, different than the past ones.  I think this team has the capability to make some noise in the tournament.  If you can, grab your family and head down to the Target Center and cheer our girls on.  Every little bit helps.
Speaking of sports, the wrestlers will once again be holding their third annual wrestling extravaganza next month.  What does extravaganza mean?  It means a night of dinning with friends, having refreshments, and tons of prizes given away.  Fifty cash prizes that will range from $50 to a grand prize of $5,000.  Along with great odds of winning cash, there will be other raffles that will include firearms,  jerseys, tickets to professional sporting events, jewelry, Designer purses and much much more.  The food is always fantastic and more than enough.
The cost of the dinner may sound a little steep at $100 per couple, but if you look at your odds of winning (only 300 tickets will be sold), they are pretty great.  Plus the most important part of whole night is all proceeds benefit the Chisago Lakes wrestling program.
If you would like to purchase tickets, please give Val a call at 651-485-9771 or email her at kammdvt@fron tiernet.net.  Hopefully we will see you there!
If you think that you have to travel to St. Paul to have fun this St. Patrick's Day, think again.  Our area has many fine restaurants and bars offering great specials this Saturday.  You can enjoy cooked cabbage, Irish Stew and even green beer if you choose (be careful with the latter it can get messy).  Take a look in this Press for some great ideas for St. Patty's Day.
March is annual Food Share Month.  I know what you are saying, he writes about the food shelf almost every month.  True as that is, March is different.  From now until the end of March, whatever you donate will be matched by donors. That means if you were to donate $50 worth of food, another $50 worth of food would be distributed through matching food share programs to the local food shelf.  What a great time to give.  At the very least, do a little spring cleaning in your pantry and I guarantee you will find more than one non-perishable food item that you wouldn't mind donating.
On Friday, I saw three cars out n Chisago Lake in the afternoon.  I could not believe my eyes.  Who in their right mind would drive out on the ice this late in the year?  One of them was traveling at a high rate of speed (not 60 but more like 25 miles per hour).  Obviously this winter has hopefully been an anomaly, even so, have we not learned our lesson with a couple of vehicles falling through the ice?  I understand that if you have the fishing bug it's hard to stay away, but at the very least, do it safely.  I would hate to run a story about someone not making it out of the lake.
