We need your coats! Shafer is open!

We need your coats! Shafer is open!

We are really getting close to our winter coat donation deadline. I have spoken with a few people that have told me they had some coats and are planning on dropping them off. I am here to plead with you, bring them in now if possible. If we could have them in before next Wednesday that would be great. Just remember folks, your donations will be greatly appreciated and you can sleep better knowing you helped a neighbor through some tough times. Everyone would love to give money to charity, but obviously it is just not feasible for some, this is your chance to give something just as valuable. You can drop your coats off here at the Press and we will make sure they go to a deserving grateful recipient. Thank you.

October is car care month. That means this is the month we should be getting our cars ready for winter. In this edition, we have some great ads from local auto shops, auto parts and all things auto. These folks would love nothing more than to help you ready your car for another long Minnesota winter.

If you and your family are looking for some good local fun, there is plenty to be had. Ojiketa Regional Park in Chisago City is hosting their annual Ojiketa Haunt. Walk the haunted trail at and enter the Haunted House spooked by its history, creatures, illusions, and ghostly characters. Brave the Haunted Hollow and see Fairy tales that have gone wrong and turned into Scary Tales. Discounts are available when you bring a non-perishable food item. It’s $5 per person or $3 per person with food donation. The scaring runs Friday and Saturday and next weekend from 7 to 10 p.m.

If you have driven on Highway 8 recently, you might have noticed that construction is getting very close to being completed. While all of the final details will not be completed until next year, but what was scheduled for this season is almost done. I know, I know, it’s going to look great Matt, we have heard it a million times. Fine, but if you get a chance, take a drive to the new Highway 8 (downtown). You can drive (at least I think you can, I have been doing so for a few weeks) through downtown. You really get the feel of what it will look like. We are almost over the hump here folks, that doesn’t mean these poor businesses who have truly struggled through the construction will instantaneously generate revenue. No, they (we) still need your help. You have been amazing with your local support, and we all thank you for it. Speaking of Highway 8, people in Center City, Shafer, and Taylors Falls have to be breathing a little easier today. That’s because Highway 8 has re-opened and drivers are now free to venture into Shafer if they choose. I know it seems like an eternity that those huge road closed signs were blocking the road at Hazelden’s corner, but not anymore. The city of Shafer would like to formally invite you back. Come back and visit: Eichten’s, Grama’s Barn, Country Tranny, Auto Gardens, Shafer 1 Stop, Adium Gas, Holt Accounting, Shafer Saloon, Big Game Bar and Grill, Shafer Automotive, the antiques store and all Shafer has to offer.

If you have looked in our public notices recently, you would have seen the ad titled “Foreclosed?” What we are trying to do is simple. If you or someone you know has been foreclosed on or is in the process, and really wishes to keep their home, we can help. If your notice was published in another newspaper and could not be seen in your town, we can help. We have attorneys who specialize in reversing foreclosures. These attorneys are not like what you would expect, they are in it for you. They make it easy and affordable and the best part, they are successful at what they do. So if you or someone you know is being faced with foreclosure, there is hope. Send us your name, address a copy of the published notice or the name of the publication it ran in and the date of that publication to: Foreclosures, County Press, PO Box 748, Lindstrom, MN 55045. We have already had a few people contact us, now we would like to help you.
