Community Meals is a partnership between Family Pathways and four churches called Christians in Action. The group began serving meals September 18, 2011 at Zion Church. The group was not sure how many to prepare for but prayed that guests would come. Since the first meal 5,631 guests have been served with over 770 volunteer hours worked. Great volunteers help from Chisago Lake Lutheran, Trinity, Zion and United Methodist. The blessings don’t end there, as people share desserts donate coffee, butter, and lemonade they donate. However, the biggest blessings received are the friendships made with community members. Friendships blossom between young and old, networking for jobs and neighbors helping neighbors. In fact, during the first year only a few meal events have dropped below 100 guests and those were not Christmas, New Years, Memorial Day or any other holiday. That says a lot about our community that we can count on each other to be there no matter what. Please come have dinner see a neighbor, and visit with a friend, make a friend. If you come alone you will not eat alone, we are all family there, a community family. Help celebrate the meal time anniversary this September.
