Richard R. Springer, age 89 of Lindstrom died peacefully on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Ecumen North Branch.
Richard was born May 17, 1923 in Minneapolis to parents, Frank and Bertha (Schultz) Springer. He moved with his family to the Frederic, Wisconsin area where he attended school. Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force on January 16, 1941 and was assigned to the 354th Fighter Group.
He served his country until his discharge on October 22, 1945. Richard married Beverley Batchelder on November 29, 1946 and they enjoyed 66 years together. He worked for U.S. Steel, the AFL/CIO and finally, as a mediator for the State of Minnesota until his retirement in 1986.
Richard enjoyed maple syruping, cutting wood, fishing, serving as a member of VFW Post 7267, as well as being a volunteer driver for the Chisago County Veterans Services.
Richard is survived by his wife, Beverley; sons, Greg (Linda) Springer of Calabasas, CA and Grant (Pam) Springer of North Branch; sisters, Angela Ruhn of Frederic, WI and Gloria Peterson of Spring Lake Park; brother, Gerald Springer of Eden Prairie as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and numerous siblings. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 24 at 10 a.m. at Ft. Snelling Chapel in Minneapolis with Chaplain Todd Carlson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the chapel on Wednesday. Interment will follow the service at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
