Rev. Marvin Palmquist passed away Saturday November 30 at Fairview Southdale Hospital, at the age of 93. Marvin was born December 31, 1919 in Taylors Falls MN. to Theodore and Anna Palmquist. Marvin grew up in Taylors Falls and attended Gustavus Adolphus College from 1938-1942. He then attended Augustana seminary from 1942-1944. He married Elaine Bexell on September 12, 1944 and was ordained into the ministry June 10, 1945. Elaine and Marvin left for Tanzania, east Africa in 1945 and served the Lutheran Church as missionaries for over 10 years. After returning to the United States, Marvin served as a parish minister to congregations in Brooklyn, NY; Hastings, MN; Minneapolis, MN; and Watertown, MN. Immediately after his retirement in 1985, he accepted the position of executive director for Lutheran Orient Mission where he continued to serve for over 20 years. He cared for his dear Elaine in her final years of dementia until her passing in 2009—after 65 years of marriage. Marvin and Elaine were blessed with three children, Mark, Annette, and Daniel. In 2010 he married Martha Fosse and spent the remaining four years of his life with Martha. Marvin is survived by his wife Martha, daughter Annette Rodriguez, son Daniel (Naomi), daughter-in-law Monica (Steve) Palmquist-Tess, six grandchildren and one great- grandchild.
