Congratulations to newest Eagle Scout

Only about four percent of Boy Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout and Zachary Markgraf, 16, recently joined this elite group. He met requirements for the Eagle Scout level in March when he was just 15-years-old. A ceremony presenting him the Eagle Award was held last month, at Zion Lutheran Church in Chisago City.

Markgraf is a member of Troop 127. His Eagle Scout Community Project was constructing an informational kiosk at Moody Park-Historic Site in Chisago Lake Township. The Moody Round Barn is the only one remaining in the county. His project got approved by the Chisago County Historical Society which oversees the site. Eagle candidates must also have earned 21 badges.

Markgraf has served as senior patrol leader and troop guide and is now acting as Junior Assistant Scout Master. A member of Elim Church in Scandia-- the Eagle Scout enjoys fishing, hunting and trapping and participates in competitive snowboarding as part of the Wild Mountain D-Team and he runs cross country at Chisago Lakes High School, where he’s a sophomore. He is the son of Gary and Tammy Markgraf, Scandia.
