Snow is good for...ouch, oh yeah the lakes; Spring Break idea that won't break the bank

I had a call yesterday from a gentleman. He wanted to know why I chose a homeless shelter in Minneapolis to ask for donations to be given. We had a nice conversation and I explained to him that I was truly just looking for a homeless shelter to donate to. He suggested keeping it local, (which believe me folks I am in total favor of), and not donating to a Hennepin County shelter. I agreed and asked him if he knew of any local shelters. He thought for a while and couldn't come up with any. So here is where I turn to you. Is there a homeless shelter in our area? If so, I would love to bring donations there as would other gracious people from the area. If you know of any, or even ones that are close, please let me know. Thank you.

As my back began to slowly lose feeling Tuesday morning, I tried my best to put a positive spin on the latest snownami. I thought “The lakes will go up” ouch a back spasm on my right side. “Our lawns will be greener than ever” yikes, a shoulder pain that I have not felt before (I have a bad rotator - not a heart attack). “The farmers will be happy” ugg a clomp of snow down the back of my neck. The only thing I can come up with is at least we are above ground to see this beautiful snow. (I was smiling when I wrote that)

There is still time for you to win an iPad Mini Wi-Fi-32GB! Chisago Lakes Area Chamber is selling a limited number of $5 raffle tickets. Stop by the Chamber office or here at the Press to purchase tickets. Winner will be drawn at the March 14 Chamber Luncheon.

Congratulations to all of the kids who worked so hard to get to their state tournaments. While the outcome might not be what they envisioned, just getting there is an accomplishment that the majority of high school students will never see. We have an amazing group of athletes from Chisago and North Branch, and we sometimes take for granted that they put such good teams on the fields and courts and pools.

I have written this a million times, if you want good, fun, cheap entertainment, high school sports are just the ticket. Now that we have had another blast of fresh snow, your options for spring break just grew a little. Wild Mountain is a wonderful place for parents to take their kids for spring break. It allows people to stay home (like us) and even go to work if needed. Not everyone can afford a Mexican vacation or a trip to Disneyworld, but a day or two at a local ski resort will guarantee to excite your kids. Ski conditions are at the best they have been all year and the temps are warm enough that you won’t have to wear seven layers of clothing.

The County Press is embarking on a new form of media. We have formed a new way of marketing local businesses, and from what we can tell, it is going to be a huge success. Next week there will be an article detailing exactly what it is and does. The reason for my writing about it today is simple.  If you are a local business and you have been trying to figure a way to bring more customers through your door, please give us a call. We are offering a free introductory offer to any and all businesses interested. Give us a call at 651-257-5115 and we can help your business today.
