Evelyn M. (Winmill) Charles, age 93, of Center City, born December 25, 1919, passed away March 23, 2013.
She is preceded in death by husband Hugo and granddaughter Stacie Schultz, six brothers, and two sisters.
She is survived by children Nancy Friberg of St. Paul; Janice (George) Hanson of Lindstrom; Eve (Jerry) Lunzer of Lindstrom; Fred (Cheryl) Charles of Boston; Lynn (Dan) Schultz of Center City and sister Joyce Letourneau of Isanti; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; in-laws Ann Schoenrock of Oakdale, Nick and Colleen Charles of St. Paul, Marlene and Fran Blatzheim of Oakdale, Jean Charles of Center City, Barb Charles of Scandia; and many nieces and nephews. “Ev” was a strong, independent woman who was a wonderful teacher of life’s lessons.
She was an avid gardener, loved cooking, baking, knitting mittens and hats, crocheting and reading books. Her hobbies were fishing, golf, and sewing. The farm provided memories of family picnics, holiday gatherings, good times and hard work. She canned tons of vegetables, farmed the fields and tended cattle for many years. It was difficult to keep pace with her.
She will be remembered for her zest for life, love of family and faith in God. Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City. Visitation noon until the time of service at church. Interment at Hillside Cemetery in Center City. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom.
