Thomsen wins Athena Award

Senior Sam Thomsen won Chisago Lakes’ first ever Athena Award last month, as she was recognized for all the work she has put in to her high school career.

The St. Paul Area Athena Awards program honors female high school seniors for their athletic achievements. Thomsen athletic prowess was on display in diving and gymnastics. In the pool, she earned five All-Conference or All-Conference Honorable Mention awards. She was twice All-State and finished in the top eight at the state tournament and earned a third trip to the state tourney in her career.

She also captained the team while setting the school diving record. In gymnastics, Thomsen has been the most sturdy performer for the ‘Cats since she was a freshman. She was All-North Suburban Conference four times and went to the state tournament twice, earning All-State Honorable Mention once. She captained the gymnastics squad for three years.
