Break-in led to allegations of criminal sexual conduct; suspect tells different story

A group of neighbors and friends were enjoying a pleasant late September night,  having drinks outside their apartment building in Wyoming.  One of the partyers, a mother of a 7-year-old, left about 9 p.m. to get her son settled in for the night.

A couple hours later, she alleges, one of her neighbors cut a screen window, and entered her bedroom and molested her.

He is now charged with first degree burglary of an occupied residence and criminal sexual conduct.

The criminal complaint states that the suspect Matthew Alan Meyer, 23  told authorities he had been drinking “captains” that night.  He thought he and the 36-year-old woman had agreed to watch a movie in her apartment, and he suddenly noticed she’d exited the gathering.

He claims he went to knock on her window and noticed the damage to the screen.  He maintains that he entered the apartment through the unlocked door.

The victim awoke noticing on the clock it was about 11:45 p.m. and Meyer was in her bed groping her.  She convinced Meyer to go into her living room, where she said he continued unwanted sexual advances.

She agreed to walk to his apartment with him, to get him out of her apartment, she told investigators. The complaint information is vague at this point, but somehow she ended up back in her apartment and telephoned police.

A buck knife attached to the pants Meyer was wearing that night was seized as evidence as possibly having been used to cut the woman’s window screen.
