She was born in Hagen Township in Clay County, Minnesota on June 29, 1928 to parents Louis and Alice Askelson.
June is preceded in death by husband Virgil; parents Louis and Alice Askelson; three brothers; four sisters and three great grandchildren.
She is survived by children Judith (Don) Sempel, Clinton Drake, Curtis Drake, and Deanna Stensgard; 16 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Originally from Detroit Lakes, MN, June and her husband managed the Stacy Liquor Store. She had a passion for cooking, gardening, dancing, casinos, and taking care of others. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, American Legion Auxiliary, lifetime member of the Forest Lake American Legion, and was a grandma volunteer with Chisago Lakes School District.
Funeral Service 10 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stacy, MN. Visitation one hour prior to service at church. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Special thanks to Birchwood Care Center, Heartland Hospice, and Pastor Ed Wheatley and his wife Fritz. Memorials are preferred.
