Pageant involvement is really more about the sparkle inside
As Miss Pre-Teen Lindstrom, she said, her favorite part of being out and about during the Karl Oskar Days celebration, was distributing what pageant people call sparkle-- small replica tiaras and related items--to many little girls she encountered. “They just lit up,” Olivia explains.
She led the K.O. Days Kiddie Parade at Beach Park and wants to continue giving back during this year of service, helping out at community events and with organizations.
Even before pageants opened doors for her natural activisim, Olivia would deliver May Day baskets to neighbors and used her Christmas money to buy stuff to donate to Northwoods Humane Society. Olivia explains that it just makes her feel good when she can brighten someone’s day or be the reason they smile.
In telling about a special program held last week during a Minnesota Twins game, she said it was made extra memorable because she was able to share the moment with her best girlfriend. Olivia was officially presented her tiara and sash as Miss Lindstrom Pre-Teen, during a celebration at Target Field. (See photo.)
Olivia got to walk onto the infield, meet pageant participants from towns all around the state and was on the jumbotron. She’ll compete next spring for the state title of Miss Pre-Teen Minnesota. If she advances, the U.S. competition takes place in July of 2016.
When Olivia is not spending time with her two younger brothers or the family’s pair of stripey cats, she also keeps busy with dance. She studies at Desiree’s, in North Branch, and is very excited about this. And, of course she’s making plans for entering sixth grade next month, which by the way, seems to require almost as much preparation as a pageant. She’s a little anxious about getting familiar with a new school, and passing from class-to-class on time. A math whiz, she additionally enjoys reading, but more for fun and not so much the assigned non-fiction books, she confides.
Olivia’s family has lived in the Lindstrom area for only a few years. Her family moved from Roseau for her dad’s job at the Polaris product development facility in Wyoming. Her mom is establishing herself as a freelance photographer.
