Barbara was born on October 30, 1946 in Benson, Minnesota to parents, Patrick and Margaret (Lee) Goggin. She attended schools in Benson graduating in 1964. She met Larry Marek while working at the Gambles Store in Benson. She and Larry were married on October 1, 1966 in Clontarf. Barb and Larry lived in several different locations due to Larry’s job but eventually settled in Chisago City in 1978. Barb worked part time at Chisago Drug and later owned and operated the Wagon Wheel Café for five years. She was active at Zion Lutheran Church in Chisago City, the Chisago City Booster Club and was very active in the Chisago County Relay for Life and a member of the Fairview Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed writing poems and doing craft work but most of all loved spending time with her family and friends and being a loving grandmother.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 50 years, Larry, son Anthony of Taylors Falls and daughter, Alicia (Dave) DeNio of Chisago City; her three grandchildren, Frank and Noah Brezany and Rayvette DeNio; brothers, Robert Goggin of Sulpher, OK; Tom (Pam) Goggin of Minneapolis; Don Goggin of Claremore, OK and Rick (Judy) Goggin of Villard; sister, Helen Dysthe of Bloomington, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Patrick and Margaret, brother, Joe and sister Rose Preuss.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Zion Lutheran Church in Center City.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 8, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Chisago City with Rev. Dwight Rudquist officiating, Music will be provided by Julie Lauritzen as organist and Dave Seaburg as soloist. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Sunday May 7 at the Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom and also one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. Interment will follow the service at Chisago Memorial Park in Chisago City.
