Homecoming week at Chisago Lakes, welcome to the Lindstrom Brickyard

Homecoming week at Chisago Lakes, welcome to the Lindstrom Brickyard

This is a big week in Chisago Lakes. It’s homecoming week which means you will most definitely see (my daughter included) kids dressed in all sorts of costumes since they have a different theme every day.

The football team takes on rival Saint Francis this Friday evening.  Everyone is invited and as I mentioned last week, it is Tackle Cancer night.  You are encouraged to wear pink to the game and Tackle Cancer hats ad beads will be available for purchase to help fight cancer.  It is a great time to help a good cause and have some fun locally.

Speaking of homecoming, I would like to formally congratulate the 2018 Chisago Lakes king and queen Shane Kargel and Lindsey Tyrrell.  I have known both these kids for a long time and am absolutely thrilled for them.

Is it just me or does traffic speed through Lindstrom seem to be on the increase?  Maybe I am getting old (insert joke here), but there seems to be more and more cars that are approaching speeds of 40 plus.  Last Thursday I came out of the post office and could hear the sound of a car going fast and stopped to watch the show.  The car, besides going too fast proceeded to hit the beware of pedestrians sign in the middle of the road squarely,  and just kept heading west as fast as they could.  As I was standing there dumbfounded by what I just witnessed, another car switching lanes plowed over the sign as well. I am positive none of these speeders are readers of this paper - if I had to guess they are just passing through which makes it even harder to reach out to them.  Besides the signs that apparently have become targets to run over, I don’t know what our options are.

Every time I stop for a pedestrian my eyes immediately go to my mirror expecting to see the worst.  If you have any ideas (legit ones), please let me know and I will forward them to the right place.

I would be remiss if I failed to wish one of my favorite people around-- a very happy birthday.  Sherry Stirling has finally turned 29-years-old.  Okay, I am kidding, but Sherry did recently host a brithday party which I was unable to attend.  Sherry is one of the gems in our area.  She is part of everything and has long been part of the fabric that makes up Chisago Lakes. Happy Birthday Sherry! Hope you have a great week!

There is still time to donate your winter children’s clothing to the 2018 Kids Outerwear Fair. The event is at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lindstrom in a few weeks.  Please submit your donations directly to the church or here at the Press and rest assured a local child will be warm this winter thanks to you.
