Shafer Days, Apple Fest were great; another memorable one has left us
Shafer Days was also really well attended, especially the bingo and pancake breakfast. Thank you to the good folks that put together the Apple Festival and Shafer Days. These late-summer events are just perfect for staying close while having a ton of fun.
Sadly our community lost another great one this week. It seems like every other week I am writing about a community pillar passing away. This week I am sad to say that Bonnie DeClercq has left us. Bonnie was my science teacher a million years ago in junior high and her late husband Dayle was my civics teacher in high school. She was a great teacher (which back then I didn't think much of many teachers) and she made quite an impression on me. But, it was my dealing with her since coming to the paper that I found out what a community saint she really was. She was a part of everything in Chisago Lakes. She volunteered everywhere including meals on wheels, church and the library. She was such a good soul and she will be missed.
Parents if you love reading books to your kids like we did (back when our kids paid attention to us), the Chisago Lakes Library has something really cool for you. Author Laura Purdie will be here Monday, September 24. Never heard of her?
Well, she is the author of over 125 children's books including If You Were The Moon and Meet My Family! Laura will be at the library for some great conversation and book signing. What a great gift idea for the upcoming Christmas season.
