Lindstrom Boy Scout Troop 159 celebrates its 75 year anniversary this year. It was chartered June 1, 1944 through its home organization Trinity Lutheran Church, Lindstrom.  The troop has been very fortunate to have the church as a partner for 75 years.  The Methodist Church served as charter organization for the Cub Scouts Pack.

A Look Back
The Scout Troop has been camping over the decades at too many areas to list: the BWCA, Philmont Ranch in New Mexico, Isle Royale, etc.  They attended the General Ulysses S. Grant Pilgrammage at Galena, Illinois, and in 2001 sent 10 Scouts and leaders to Sweden for the Jamboree.

Local Scouts also like to host fellow Scouts here-- for events like the 100s of boys who participated in a recent Jamboree at Almelund Threshing Show Grounds.

Three leaders have been awarded the Silver Beaver for service to the district council. These are Bill Straub, Bob Garetson and Rusty Johnson.

All this activity requires community support and Johnson stressed while talking about the Troop,  to make sure to note that the fundraising support and goodwill is much appreciated.

Troop 159 consists of about 40 members and 20 leaders. Scouts range in age from 10-and-a-half to 18.  Troop 159 is “boy-led” and naturally this has resulted in making community leaders of many of the members.  In the Eagle Scout listing names are familiar because they went on to become volunteer firefighters, work in law enforcement and own businesses.   The Eagle Scout rank is obtained by only four percent of all Scouts and local Eagle Scout rank has been bestowed on an extraordinary  number of Troop 159 members.

They are: in 1949 Mark Haferman and Allen Wahlgren; 1951 Charles Andrews, John Magnuson, Donald Pauley, Jerry Peterson, and Frank Victor. In 1958 Dave Albrecht earned Eagle.  In 1961 the Troop’s Eagle Scout was Michael Nystrom.  There were 10 years that passed by until the Eagle rank was earned by Alan Hultman and Ricky Johnson, in 1972.

Tim Hanson earned Eagle in 1974 and Tim Ryan in 1978.  Rusty Johnson joined the ranks in 1983. Matt Garetson in 1984, Joel Illgen in 1986 and Allen Illgen in 1988.

The 1990s saw multiple Eagle ranks obtained: Eric Brohaugh 1990, Bradley Swenson and Jason Beecher, 1991, Jame Holt 1992, Keir Morse 1994, and six Eagle Scouts in 1996-- Joseph Anderson, Michael Cloud, Samuel Hoolihan, Jarrod Campbell, Peter Gagne and Daniel Riley. Two were awarded in 1997 Ryan Nelson and Trent Peterson. There were also two in 1999--Josh Campbell and Jason Gustafson. In 2000 Eagle went to Tony Christie and Peter Monson.  Matthew Hernick in 2001. Cameron Novack 2002.  Three Scouts in 2004; Andy Bowels, Tom Holl, Chris Hernick and Nathan Anderson. 2005 was another big year, with Brady Huber, Robert Monson, Cahd Stenson, Ben Lunsford and Kurt Gustafson earning Eagle. In 2006 it was Andrew King.

The 2007 Eagle list is huge-- Ethan Karwand, James Deneen, Billy Straub, Jonathon Barwin, Brent Dawson, Dusty Elmslander.

In 2008 it was Micah Geno, Michael Peterson and Alex Walter.  2009 was Chris Monson’s year. 2010 it was Christian Schmidt. 2011 was Eagle Year for David Hudson, Zach Geno, Keith Sampica.

Michael Heinen earned Eagle in 2014.  There were three in 2015; Sam Klun, Andy Johnson and Eli Klatt.  The 2017 Eagle Scouts were Brendan Huffman and Noah Klatt.

To honor the community the Troop has donated $500 to the Harmony in the Park summer concert series.

Troop 159 is celebrating the milestone leading opening of the Harmony performance June 5.  “White Sidewalls” are the band that night and take the stage at 7 p.m. after the Scout ceremony.
