I hope you had a nice long Labor Day weekend.  It would have been nice to see the sun a little more than we did, but time off is always nice regardless.

We got shook out of bed Monday night by a nasty thunderstorm and high winds.  Not tornadic but enough to knock out power for three-plus hours.  Of course I rushed down to our sump basket to see if the water table was rising and it was.  Luckily the last time our basement flooded I made the vow to get a generator to at least plug in the sump pump.  Before you are thinking “Yeah we all have money to go out and buy a new generator”, I bought mine off Craigslist for $100.  Worth absolutely every penny.

The Chisago Lakes School district is having a garage sale Friday at the old Lakeside Elementary School in Chisago City.

The sale will feature tons of used furniture  and items from the school many of grew up in.  There is a boat load of stuff for the public to purchase.  I will go hoping just to see Mrs. Holiday’s sixth grade classroom one last time.
The sale will run from 7 am to 4 pm. Lakeside is located at 10345 Wyoming Avenue in Chisago City - along Highway 8.

Prayers go out to the people of the Bahamas who were devastated by Hurricane Dorian over the weekend.  The storm left utter destruction and a few structures that were not destroyed by 200 mile per hour wind, were ruined by massive storm surges.

If you would like to donate any amount to help those ravaged by the storm you can do it safely by going to the Red Cross website at www.redcross.org and clicking on donate now.  Hopefully I am not writing later about the same storm leaving destruction along the east cost of our United States.

There are a couple of events taking place here in the near future. First off Hay  Days takes place this weekend.  Impossible to miss the traffic on the days of the event, it is the biggest snowmobile/atv swap meet ad motorsports show in the upper midwest. It also features grass drags, snowmobile races, an aerial show with snowmobiles, dirt bikes and ATVs.  Hay Days is located at 11754 302nd St, or just west of downtown Almelund.

Next week is Shafer Days. The folks in Shafer have worked hard to bring you an all-new rebranded Shafer Days to help us ease into the fall with some good local fun.  You can check out their schedule of events in this edition of the County Press on page 8.
