She was born to Erwin and Pearl Baller on August 15, 1932, at Ancker Hospital in St. Paul, MN and was the eldest of three children. Beverly grew up in St. Paul and graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in 1950.
In marriage she was blessed with two daughters who were her greatest pride and her prime focus in life. In later years, she was affectionately called “Grandma Shoes” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren (because they couldn’t pronounce Hughes when they were toddlers). Throughout her lifespan she was known for her organization, wit, love of gardening and great cooking abilities. She also had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs and bird watching.
Her career spanned over 30 years with the Northern Pacific, Great Northern and Burlington Northern Railroads, retiring in 1990 in her final role as Manager of Electronic Data Interchange.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Paul and John. She is survived by her daughters Cheryl (Thom) Haverkamp and Rita (Don) Nelson; grandchildren April (Chad) Loula, Brad (Tessa) Nelson, and Doug (Nicole Zacher) Nelson; great-grandchildren Bailey and McKenna Loula, Sydney and Kylee Nelson, and Lily Ashton-Nelson; also sister-in-law Helen Baller; niece Deb Minlschmidt, and nephew Scott (Melinda) Baller.
Special thank you to Ecumen Hospice for their quality and compassionate care, and also to her many neighbors at Ridge Point Townhomes for being the best friends ever! In lieu of flowers or memorials, pay it forward to someone in need.
