Vaccine distribution on the horizon

Vaccine distribution on the horizon

These past several weeks and into the future, Chisago County Public Health is planning for distribution of the vaccine related to COVID-19. The vaccine is anticipated in this area as soon as the end of December.

“These first vaccine deliveries are one small but very important step in the right direction. In the meantime, we must be patient and absolutely must continue to take those measures that keep all Minnesotans safe: wear a mask when in public, maintain social distancing, get tested, and properly isolate and quarantine when needed,” MDH Commissioner Jan Malcolm, said in a statement.

COVID-19 vaccine, potentially from a number of different manufacturers is coming into the community soon, sparking planning for distribution.  Information from these manufacturers indicate that there is a high percent of coverage, bringing even more hope to this intervention.  Chisago County Public Health in conjunction with a number of community partners, are planning how to vaccinate targeted members in the community who meet the criteria established by the Federal government and the Minnesota Department of Health.

COVID-19 vaccination will take a phased approach. Phase 1 will target highest risk persons first then down to the rest of the community as the vaccine becomes more widely available.

First on the list to receive the vaccine are health care workers in hospitals, clinics, long term care facilities as well as other key personnel in the community such as EMS, Law Enforcement, teachers, etc.

Such a massive effort will require the help of volunteers so Public Health is seeking assistance from our healthcare workers and qualified community residents who would be willing to help with giving the vaccine and provide other assistance as needed. Anyone interested in helping should contact Chisago County Public Health at 651-213-5233 for more information.  Community residents should watch the Chisago County Public Health Facebook page, or the Chisago County website for information on future vaccination sites.
