Thanks so much to all of the wonderful men and women of our local American Legion posts and our VFW posts for hosting these great services allowing us to honor our women and men who have dutifully served our country and many gave their lives. I love this area and the Veterans we have are second to none.
When I wasn’t attending a Memorial Day service, I spent the entire weekend working on our new deck. We bought a fixer-upper over the winter that had a dilapidated deck. Lucky us, the price of wood is so cheap right now it barely dented our pocketbook. Obviously I am joking, every trip to Menards is a call to the bank for a small personal loan. If there is one shiny point of building a deck with the exorbitant prices, it’s the eleven percent rebate Menards offers. If you go to Menards in the near future and find out the rebate offer is no longer, I apologize. It’s my fault.
This is the week Shafer is holding the annual city-wide garage sale. The sales begin Thursday and runsthrough Saturday. Lots of good deals to be had!
This week also kicks off summer. Harmony in the Park began their concert series June 2 with the White Sidewalls. Next week, mark your calendars for Buddy Holly & the Winter Dance Party. On top of some great classic music performed by a Buddy Holly tribute band, we will be honoring health care providers with a Health Fair Night.
The festivities run every Wednesday at 6:30pm at the Lindstrom Lion’s Park next to City Hall. For those of you who have never been, turn south on Akerson Street off Highway 8 one block and right on Sylvan. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and enjoy!
North Branch will soon begin its concerts in the park series. June 8 Monroe Crossing will kick off the music in the park. June 14 the Sweethearts Dinner Band will perform. All concerts are at 7pm and are held in Central Park.
As we (fingers crossed) near the end of the pandemic, some numbers that I have mentioned many times in the past have been updated.
Chisago County has had 6,150 confirmed cases of COVID 19. As of June 1 there have been 52 county deaths attributed to covid. As far as getting vaccinated, there are 25,392 people with at least one vaccination dose and 22,468 have had completed doses.
If you need an incentive for getting vaccinated see page 15 for details about how to apply for Governor’s Reward Program. I knew I should have waited for prizes...
