District 5 is open for serving on the Chisago County Board with the longtime Commissioner, Mike Robinson, having passed away. Running are: Cindy Erickson, John Sutcliffe and Dan Dahlberg. Only two can move on to the general election in November. To vote in this race you must reside in County Board District 5.
North Branch residents get a unique opportunity this year to seat a County Commissioner in the newly-created District One. The city has grown large enough to merit its own commissioner seat. Jim Swenson, Richard Cedergren and Tim MacMillan are the candidates. Again, only two can be on the November ballot so the highest vote-getters in this primary will advance.
Elsewhere, the newly-drawn State Senate District 11 (very north end of Chisago County) has a primary.
If you reside in the uppermost of Chisago County you are in this district. John Peura and Michelle Boyechko are vying for the chance to be on the ticket.
(Chisago County has House members in St. Paul, but neither Anne Neu Brindley nor Brian Johnson have August primary, same party, challengers.)
Meanwhile, U.S. Congressman Pete Stauber has to get more votes Tuesday than Harry Robb Welty, to advance to the November ballot on the GOP side.
And, for the same 8th congressional district DFLers Jen Schultz and John Munter are in the primary.
Polls are open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Absentee voting has been taking place at the County Government Center, and continues up to Primary Day.
