Betty Scott

Betty J. Scott, age 96 of Chisago City died on Monday, December 12, 2022 at Parmly on the Lake in Chisago City.

Betty was born on January 6, 1926 in Enfield, Minnesota to parents, John and Helga (Ekberg) Nordin.  She had memories of being a very young girl living on the farm, playing in the apple orchard and bringing her dad his afternoon coffee while working in the fields. Her family moved to Washington, D.C. when she was in third grade so her dad could take a job as a guard for the U.S. Post Office.  The family eventually moved back to Minneapolis and she graduated from Humboldt High School in 1943.  Proficient in shorthand and working in the office in high school she audited classes at the University of Minnesota Agricultural Campus while working as a secretary for one of the professors.  It was there that she met her husband, Elliott and they were married in August of 1947.  They were blessed with two children, Glen and Karen.  They made their home in Bloomington, Columbia Heights and in retirement, Chisago City.

In each place she created beautiful gardens.  Betty especially enjoyed being outdoors, walking in the woods, tending her flowers, reading and being with family. She always had a treat when visitors came and “juice and a cookie” for the grandkids. She had a kind, sweet and independent spirit.  Now she is able to walk freely in the gardens with her Lord and Savior.

Betty is survived by her son Glen (Darlene) Scott of Faribault, and daughter Karen Tveitbakk of Chisago City; her grandchildren, Kath (Nate) Koch, Chris Scott, Jamie (Heather) Tveitbakk and Heidi (Tim) Whiteford as well as her five great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband Elliott, on December 7, 2012; brother Richard Nordin; an infant brother and son in law Ron Tveitbakk.

A graveside service will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 12:30 p.m. at the Parmly on the Lake Chapel.
Arrangements are by Grandstrand Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Lindstrom.  Condolences maybe expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com
