Ki Chi Saga Days - State Fair

Thanks to all the volunteers and the Ki Chi Saga Days committee for a wonderful weekend of fun and festivities.  There were people everywhere and they were all having a great time.

Thanks also to Doris Zacho from the parks department for her countless hours of preparation for this year’s event.

We only have a very few community events left before the (gulp) snow flies, so if you have yet to get out and experience these, do so soon.  I believe we have Shafer Days and Apple Fest still this summer/fall.  We will let you know when they are near.

Here is a neat story for you.

Many of us know who the Bergersons are. Ronnie and Wade ran a successful septic and sewer company for decades.  Ron passed away quite a while ago and Wade stayed in the business up until now.  You see, Wade is battling  kidney and lung cancer.  Wade’s family created a GoFundMe page for help from the public with his mounting medical bills.

Last week, a 9-year-old boy from North Branch named Bentley Richardson,  donated $100 to Wade’s GoFundMe page-Wade Bergerson’s Fight Against Cancer.  Bentley is going into the fourth grade in about a week. Bentley earned the money by raking a neighbor's yard.

Instead of buying a new video game or electronic accessory, Bentley generously donated his earnings of $100.

"My cat had cancer and diabetes and died and I just want to help the world" Bentley said, according to a family member who told us about this.

Just when you are sure the world is heading in the wrong direction, a kid like this comes along and restores your faith.

Thanks Bentley for being more grown up than most of us.

Can you believe the State Fair is starting this week? This summer has gone by in the blink of an eye.  I remember specifically telling myself this summer is going to be the longest, most boring summer yet - on purpose.  Was it?  Just the opposite - we decided to rip down and build a retaining wall that took a good chunk of the weekends this summer. We did manage to get out on the water, not as much as in years past, but still got out.

Life seems to be flying by at an alarming rate lately.

Sometimes I feel like a caveman because I don’t watch the evening news.  It is literally 15 minutes of the most negative news you can find.  Oh, but it’s okay because their last story is always a warm and fuzzy feel good story.

I will say, other than looking like a buffoon when asked about a current event, those extra few minutes each day have been used  wisely.  Fishing, walking the dog, and staring at the clouds.

Subscribe today and go in a drawing to win four Renaissance Festival tickets. Four will be given away each week until our supply of tickets is gone.  You can subscribe on our website.
