Richard “Dick” Bergquist



Richard “Dick” H. Bergquist passed away on August 25th, 2023, surrounded by his family at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Sauk Rapids, MN. He was formerly from Lindstrom, MN.    

Dick was born on September 19th, 1942, in Chisago City to Howard and Blanche Bergquist.

Dick graduated from Chisago City High School in 1960 where he played football, basketball and baseball. After graduation Dick joined the US Army and later worked at 3M, Bakke Construction and the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier until his retirement.  Dick was also a member of the Lindstrom Fire Department for 23 years and served as Chief for nine of those years.  He was involved in the Chisago County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited for 36 years, serving on their committee for 14 years.  He was also active with Pheasants Forever, the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, and a long-time member of the Chisago Lakes Sportsman’s club.  He coached football and hockey through the Lakes Area Recreation Association and volunteered his time teaching firearm safety for 10 years plus.  Dick and his family loved camping, fishing, hunting, and being up at the “deer shack”. 

He married his high school sweetheart Vicky Johnsen on September 28th, 1963.  They had three sons: Michael, Mark and Mitchel.   

Dick is preceded in death by his wife Vicky, his son Mitch, and his parents.  He is survived by his sons Mike and Mark (Melissa) Bergquist; grandchildren Justine (Riley) Gronau, Brittney (James) Fletcher, and Ashley Bergquist; great-grandchildren Hunter, Aubrie, and Hazyl; sister Barb (Bergquist) Wright and brother Chuck (Peggy) Bergquist; sisters-in-law Trudy (Jon) Trenda and Sherry (Roger) Olson, along with many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held 3 – 7 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, MN.  A short service will be held at 6:30 for prayers and memories to be shared.  Please feel free to join family and friends afterwards at the Lindstrom Muni for a toast to honor Dick.  Interment at Fairview Cemetery in Lindstrom, MN.  In lieu of flowers, the family is asking memorials go to Lindstrom Fire Department.  Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com
