Merry Christmas to you and your families!

This is our last paper before Christmas. So if you are opposed to religious tones, move to the next paragraph.  Monday is when the world celebrates the birth of Jesus. Right around 2.3 billion people consider themselves Christians, myself included.  My faith has gotten me through the worst times imaginable and I can honestly say without it, I most likely wouldn’t be here.  Maybe that’s why Christmas is so emotional for me.  My parents did a wonderful job showing me the true meaning of Christmas and I have tried to do so with my kids (I am certain I have not came close to the job my parents did).

I honestly hope you have a wonderful Christmas and please consider who we are celebrating.

I know this is a tad bit early, but Celebration of the Lakes is taking place this year.  We will have to see how the ice thickness plays out, but between now and February there is plenty of time to make good ice.  There are a few events that you can start prepping for now for the celebration.  They will be holding a pickle ball tournament at the Wildcat Fitness Center on February 10.  You can register your team right now on the Chisago Lakes Community Education website.  They are also taking registrations for the annual cribbage tournament which will take place on the same day at the Wildcat Center.

Tuesday is the day that Minnesota officially gets a new flag design and I for one couldn’t be more tickled about it.

I have to be honest, until this whole design debacle started inundating the top of the newscasts for the last six months (it seems), I couldn’t have told you what was on our existing flag.  The existing design is offensive to many groups in Minnesota, and we are in need of a new flag for sure.  But if I tally up the minutes I have spent gazing at our state flag the total would come to zero.  Yet this art project,  that is filled with flag designs that look like I submitted them, is force fed to us nightly.  Just change the flag and move on to the next issue.  We have multiple committees dedicating their hours to “tweak” this design or that one.  Maybe it is just a slow news month, maybe we should have a newspaper section dedicated to the new flag design..stay tuned.
