North Branch City Council briefs.....
North Branch City Council met May 23 and the regular agenda took 15 minutes to take care of.
In regular business: the Graphic Homes Inc. request for a Planned Unit development for its project on south Grand Avenue was approved. The developer has six months to file a final plat for the 45 acre site, situated near Greenway and 378th. The preliminary plat shows 84 single family homes at this time.
The Paxmar park development agreement for the new Meadows North neighborhood was also moved forward with several tasks being done in this coming phase.
The “park development account” which is built through fees paid by builders— will pay for cement pads estimated at $4,000 in the park in preparation for benches, and play areas. Safety First Playground will do the rubberized surfacing for about $7,500. A small utility building to house irrigation equipment will be installed for $5,000. Seeding, parking lot improvements and other projects are also on the 2023 to-do list.
The council awarded the electrical service project at the dome in Riverwalk Park to Goose Creek. It was the lower of two quotes gotten, at $8,400.
~ Public Works Director Shawn Williams said the blow-out in the road from the failure of Ditch 7 on Maple Street, took a while to address because the culvert is a custom 65 foot arched span that took time to get delivered.
The install and repairs ought to be done this week sometime.
~ Flowering hanging baskets (48) are put up for the summer, and the city beautification committee could use some more donations to cover costs. See the city website or ask at city hall if you are looking to help out.
Williams added that the flags are maintained and the inventory is kept up courtesy of the North Branch American Legion Post and he appreciates the partnership.
~ A reminder that the Highway 95 water main first phase of replacement is scheduled to get going early August. Bidding/specs go out in June and close in mid-July.
The second water main replacement phase is from Second to 12th and is slated for 2027.
