Center City Council has productive meeting
The floating dock assembly is being enjoyed by boaters tying-up in Center City and city council members last week extended thank-yous to all who helped make the docking a reality. The floating unit was found for sale and private parties snatched it up and got Center City approval to place it on the edge of downtown on North Center Lake.
The Lake Improvement District was a major donor to help with the purchase price contributing $4,000 and other private contributions took the account over the top with money to spare, which will be put in a repair and maintenance fund.
The “Moody house” demolition recently held as a fire department training exercise, resulted in reported damages to awnings on main street. Barry Moe asked council to cover $1,000 for “cleanup” and a claim for $3,500 to replace an awning that got burn holes from flying debris, he said. Council approved the claims.
Council approved a Chisago County senior center request for financial aid signing a services contract for a $200 contribution.
The public works bill was clarified for plowing provided by the city to a very short asphalt section off Crescent Drive, with a fire hydrant at its end. Homeowner Lucas Anderson was being billed $75 but he told council he was under the impression the charge is $50 per run. The bill was revised to be $950 for $50— times the 19 times the city plow responded last winter.
City staff are paid privately for plowing non-city owned land such as Bayview, Calendar Isle and other sites.
Streetlight poles that have quit working are being addressed but not quickly.... public works superintendent Eric Garner said some of the cement bases are too deteriorated to use. He said to avoid the time and expense of making new cement bases, they’ll try an epoxy mounting supplemented by new bolt holes and see how it works and he’ll report back.
Garner also said he’s making progress on water meter and remote signal heads, but property owners need to cooperate. If you have gotten a letter or door hanger informing you about your meter or remote radio-read device please set up an appointment with city hall to have this equipment changed out. Garner is working on the least reliable, oldest metering systems first and will eventually get to all the properties on the municipal system.
A public hearing is to be held by the city planning commission for the old Go Boat-My Burger redevelopment plan.
The hearing is for a number of zoning revisions and variances for impervious surface etc. The planning commission meets June 26 at city hall at 7 p.m.
Clerk Dana Miron got glowing reviews for her first six months and was removed from probationary status, and granted the contractual $1 per hour raise.
