In the course of a lifetime many people put in the work personally in search of their spirituality, understanding the importance of being an enlightened human being and a repository of positive energy in the physical universe.
But there’s also people capable of expanding that spiritual questioning by looking outward; as people who are receptive to energy beyond the here and now.
The paranormal is a beacon for these folks with ever evolving investigative techniques and available research tools. This time of year, Halloween, or around all hallows eve, you can count on the topic of paranormal activity being of expanded interest.
This week we introduce you to a couple of Chisago Lakes grads who just might be cultivating a career following their passion for the paranormal.
Chuck Love, Class of 2012 and Garrett McKenzie, Class of 2015, plus the third leg of their storytelling stool, Kelsey Mead, were picked up by the Discovery Channel to be part of special segments related to paranormal activity premiering this week.
The three are also on YouTube, Tik Tok, Instagram at realmidwestparanormal. You can find Kelsey Mead’s life coaching podcasts as well.
Kelsey explained she has long been fascinated with the paranormal and she and Chuck Love have been friends for years. They credit getting inspiration from watching the “Paranormal Couple” on YouTube. When finally making the leap to acquire research equipment they found what was needed at a website called GhostShop.com. namely—electromagnetic field detectors, the SB127 spirit box that cycles through frequencies and can pickup communications plus extra cameras for monitors. Always curious they tried chattering cat toys that light up when touched, and the result was surprising.
Behind the scenes, Garrett, Chuck explained, was skeptical in the beginning but as he started to encounter what Chuck and Kelsey have always embraced, he now is totally invested as part of the production.
Their adventure on the Discovery Channel at Forepaugh’s, a St. Paul landmark, was videotaped just last month and aired Halloween. Love says he touched base with Discovery Channel “on a whim” and was invited to send the final 45 minute package along. Don’t fret if you missed it, check on-line for repeat showtimes.
Subscribe to enjoy the segment on YouTube under the heading Midwest Paranormal as well.
Chuck predicts he and Kelsey will combine talents for a regular podcast in the near future based on their paranormal adventures.
Their next destination is the former Twin Cities Wabasha Caves, where turn-of-the century mobsters are rumored to have hung out, and where the potential for energy is ripe.

One of many stories the two can share about paranormal incidents in their lives should make readers smile.
Chuck cared for his mother the last days of her life as she dealt with cancer six years ago, and he tells of her promise to check in with him after she passed. They agreed her signal would be the song Proud Mary (the Tina Turner version) and rays of sunshine.
Chuck says he was driving on Highway 95 north out of Stillwater, on a dreary afternoon not long after she died, and a deer crossed in front. He slammed on the brakes and his mobile phone rocketed to the car floor detaching from its charging cord. When he pulled to the roadside to plug it back in, the sun came out of the clouds and completely unprompted, the phone started playing his mother’s song.
