Chisago Lakes senior Ellie Undem closed her career in style, earning two medals at the state meet last week at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
Undem earned her berth to state with a school record in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle. In both instances, she broke her own record, but with her state performance, one of those marks didn’t last long.
Her top finish was in the 100 yard freestyle, where Undem finished in fourth place overall at state with a time of 52.83 seconds, which shaved a half of a second off of her school record from sections.
In the 50 yard freestyle, Undem bested a large field to get into the final eight, finishing in seventh in the prelims to earn her spot on the podium. In the finals, Undem had a nice swim, trimming time off of her prelim time, but she dropped down a spot, finishing in eight place in the tough field.
Section and conference mate Adalynn Biegler, a freshman from Monticello, won both events with All-American times.
“Ellie has been a great swimmer and great leader for us in her career,” Head Coach Amanda Husfeldt said. “Her performance at the state meet was impressive, and for her to get into the top five is such a great achievement for her, and for the Chisago Lakes program.”
