Ki Chi Saga from a different perspective, Relay for Life
Wow what a great weekend for Ki Chi Saga Days! Other than a tad bit of rain Saturday morning, the weather was perfect. We took in a bunch of different events at Ki Chi Saga Days including some music in the park which was fabulous. There were people everywhere. The fireworks were great at Paradise Park per usual.
Thanks so much to the Chisago City for hosting a wonderful event in our backyard. Doris and workers and volunteers did an amazing job this year.
Speaking of Ki Chi Saga Days, this year instead of taking parade photos for the paper, I had the pleasure of driving a float in the parade. Well, maybe not a float, but I did get to drive a 2002 mint condition Ford Thunderbird that belongs to George McMahon. George was this year’s Grand Marshal and needed a driver. It was a no brainer on my part. I have always watched the parade from one spot so this was the first time I have seen its entire route and how many people, sit where. Well it took moving about 17 feet for George to jump out of the car and start shaking hands. In all my years of covering parades, I have never seen a Grand Marshal walk the entire route. Pretty neat, but then again George is one of a kind. So all of you who were yelling at me telling me how nice my car is, sorry but it wasn’t mine...maybe someday.
Tomorrow (Friday) is the annual Chisago County Relay for Life event. This year the event moved to Friday night to accommodate those who have trouble making the event on a weeknight. If you have never been to a Relay for Life event, I have a hard time finding the right words to explain it. Everybody, and I mean everybody’s life has been touched by cancer in one way or another. The event is our way to remember those who lost their lives and those who are and have battled this disgusting disease. There’s a couple of speakers as well as some food and drinks and at dusk the luminaries are lit and the public is encouraged to come visit the outdoor display. To say the event is moving, is putting it lightly. The relay is at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City and runs from 5-9pm.
