St. Bridget’s block party is this weekend, food advice for Fair

Thanks so much to all who attended the Relay for Life at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church Friday evening.  The group of people who put all of the hours in year round, to make this such a great event are one of a kind.  This was the first year in as long as I can remember that I couldn’t make the relay, so I was pretty bummed-out.  But the event from what I am told was fantastic, as usual.

We had a chance to take in the State Fair this past Sunday.  We figured with temps touching 90, the crowds certainly would be diminished so we gave it a go.  Took one step inside the gate and boy was I wrong. People everywhere.  Keep in mind this was at 9 a.m. also maybe people were trying to do the fair thing before it got hot.  For the record, the State Fair is not my cup of tea.  I am not a fan of large gatherings nor getting food spilled on me (twice).  But we have an agreement in our marriage that Matt will go to the fair, act like he is having fun and not complain about how much money we are spending.  So that’s what I did. I can’t give you food recommendations other than the Greek bites at Dino’s and the Walleye Cakes at Giggles were amazing. Oh, and the cookie butter mini donuts were out of this world.  I can give you beer recommendations or rather which ones to not try - anything purple in color.  They were all not good in my opinion.

This Saturday is St. Bridget’s annual Block Party.  The event is held in St. Bridget’s parking lot.  Come enjoy the ever-popular Boogie Wonderland Band who will entertain you with dance and pop hits from three decades.  If you are looking for food, they will have a turkey dinner, burgers, hot dogs, brats and beer for purchase.  There’s kids games and a great silent auction that you can bid on now by scanning the QR code on their ad in this paper.  Best part? Admission is free! The party runs from 6-10pm, see you there!

I just spoke to my contact for homeless clothing donations. She tells me they are starting to have a need for warm clothing even though the temps have been blistering as of late.  If you are cleaning out your closets and have some warm clothing including underwear and socks and would like your stuff to go to a good cause, by all means bring it here to the Press and we will see it gets on the backs of needy Minnesotans.
