Shafer council briefs........
Shafer City Council met January 2 for a regular Council meeting. All members were present.
The council held a public hearing for Chapter 12 Fee Schedule changes. No public was present so after closing the hearing the council voted unanimously to approve the fee schedule. To view the entire fee schedule, you may visit city hall for the complete list of categories and fees.
The council then passed a motion to formally accept City Clerk Valerie Fox as a permanent employee. Fox thanked the council and said she is really enjoying her position.
The council then agreed to move the March 5 meeting to March 4 because of the Presidential Primary Election held on March 5. Meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
The council then unanimously passed an ordinance concerning exceptions to subdivisions. Arising from prior meetings with a property owner along Quandam Lane looking to sell nine acres of existing 40. The ordinance lists two exceptions where one must be met before the council can approve. If land is added to an abutting parcel to create two complying lots OR the conveyance does not necessitate the dedication of right of way.
The council then accepted a gambling donation of $301.23 from the Shafer Fire gambling fund.
The council then made their appointments to city offices as follows:
Mayor Paula Hanson will sit on the events committee, public works committee, finance committee, civil defense, and weed inspector.
Council member Patty Mattson will sit on the parks committee, events committee, EDA, HR committee, library committee, Highway 8 committee, and the cable commission.
Council member Patti Kowalski will sit on the parks committee, events committee, planning commission, EDA, street commission, ordinance committee, and the Highway 8 committee.
Council member Nick Brehm will serve as the assistant mayor, planning commission, finance committee, ordinance committee, and the fire department committee.
Council member Brad Swenson will serve on the street commission, public works committee, and the wellhead protection team.
The council kept MSA as their engineering firm, Campbell Knutson as city attorneys, Midwest One as depositor and Chisago County Press as the legal newspaper.
The council then agreed if there is a lack of a quorum at any planned meeting and notice is not given, the members who show up will still get paid for attending.
Meetings now begin at 6 p.m. after action was taken to change start time.
Council adjourned at 6:18 p.m.
