Green Light in support or veterans

Government buildings all across the nation will be bathed in green lighting November 4-11 as part of the “Operation Green Light” program.  To express support for veterans and their loved ones, Chisago County Board agreed to participate in the green light effort, as requested of all members of the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers.  When you see the green— reflect on how much veterans have done for this country and in the local community and if you are able to,  extend your appreciation and support personally.

Bryan T Brown is the Chisago County Veteran Service Officer. His mission is to provide outreach and public assistance to all vets and their spouses, along with Wendy Kowalke, office support person.  If you need access to transitioning services coming fresh out of military service or if you haven’t worn a uniform in decades and are looking into resources for your situation, contact the VSO.  As the clearinghouse for information and paperwork if you are dealing with benefits, medical issues or any other programs having to go through the U.S. Veterans Administration, or Minnesota’s branch of the VA the Chisago County office is the place to start.

There are also the veterans’ van rides to medical facilities in Minneapolis, Maplewood and St. Cloud.  There is a charge for these trips, which “travel pay’ qualifying veterans can be reimbursed for at the facility.  Just present your van receipt. Non qualifying veterans pay $10.

Contact Wendy to schedule a ride, at 651-213-5605.

Maplewood appointments should be for Monday mornings, St. Cloud trips are Wednesday mornings and the Minneapolis VA trips are Tuesday and Thursdays in the morning.  You will be picked up at your residence.

The VSO also meets for coffee informally with veterans at two locations. North Branch Legion hosts Coffee Talk at 9 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month and Coffee Talk is also at Zion Church, Old Towne Road Chisago City, at 9 a.m. the second Tuesday of each month.
