Shafer City Council briefs
Shafer City Council met October 1 for a regular meeting. Council member Nick Brehm was absent.
Council began the meeting with a resolution accepting donations from fire relief and gambling for $836.02.
The council then set a budget meeting to discuss accepting the final levy for November 19 at 5pm. On September 4 the council passed a motion to approve Resolution 2024-9-4 for setting the preliminary budget and levy at $581,182.00, reflecting a 5.5 percent increase. The Truth in Taxation hearing date is scheduled for December 5, 2024, at 6:00 pm.
The council then passed a resolution transferring $57,000 from the general fund to the water and sewer fund. Of that, $40,000 will be transferred to the water fund and $17,000 to the sewer fund.
The council then discussed the potential hiring of a new engineering firm Bolton & Menk. Council member Patty Mattson made a motion to rescind the original offer to Bolton & Menk. The offer extended to Bolton-menk was rescinded due to the need for additional time to thoroughly assess all interviewees.
