US Capitol breach defendant OK’d to travel out of country
One of the defendants in the January 6, 2021 United States Capitol Breach case, Jonah Westbury of Lindstrom, was granted a revised condition of release by the federal judge overseeing his case. He has been on conditional release since his arrest in 2021.
Westbury, 29, will be allowed to travel out of the continental U.S. for his honeymoon. His attorney asked for the judge’s permission, saying Westbury has honeymoon reservations on the island of Antigua January 7-16. The website announcing the wedding of Jonah and Angela Gazich says they are getting married Saturday, January 4.
Westbury and his father Robert and brother, Isaac, and half brother Aaron James, all from Lindstrom, face multiple charges based on their alleged participation in the insurrection in 2021, obstructing Congress from performing their constitutional duties. Over 100 law enforcement personnel, civilians, capitol staff and others were injured in a riot that resulted in property damages and associated losses of $2.8 million, according to the District of Columbia prosecutors.
Almost 800 individuals who have been charged have entered guilty pleas with 244 at felony level and 547 misdemeanors, according to the District Court in D.C.
Jonah, Isaac and Robert Westbury face a variety of charges, as well as Aaron James. Their cases have been consolidated and the trial has been docketed and delayed several times. Just recently an extension of 60 days (bringing the trial date into February 2025) was granted due to one of the members of their legal team serving in the National Guard deployed to the severe weather situation on the east coast.
