First United Methodist in Lindstrom will welcome its new pastor by bringing a unique tradition back to the service, July 13 at 9 a.m. which is being held outdoors.
The special service incorporates cradle rocking, which was first celebrated in 1922. Cradle rocking is done by the youth of the church while someone sings a lullaby, and it is meant to welcome the newest members of a congregation under the age of one year.
The incoming pastor also being embraced by the church-goers is Reverend Jay Jeong. He most recently served at Mounds Park United Methodist in St Paul.
Free ice cream sundaes add a festive note to the day.
The date was also chosen to coincide with Karl Oskar Days. The church was established by Swedes as the First Swedish Episcopal Church
First United Methodist is near the Chisago Lakes Middle School tennis and pickleball courts, off Irene Avenue. If you wish to include a child in the cradle rocking ceremony contact the church at 651-257-4306 by July 6.
