It’s time for the second round of grant funding to be dispersed by the Opioid Action Council through final recommendations that will be approved by  the Chisago County Board. There‘s $200,000 available for this total round.  

Funds go out to counties through the State,  from money generated by the opioid lawsuit settlements that were negotiated.  It is anticipated funding will be received for several years.

The Chisago County opioid action council set a deadline to submit your grant proposals of June 11 at 4 p.m.

The council distributed several first-ever grants in  2024,  for about $92,980.  The priorities were on public awareness, outreach and harm reduction concerning legal and illegal opioids.

Some of the educational and substance response materials made available by organizations included: Fentanyl Free Communities Foundation, the sheriff’s office, Canvas Health and Steve Rummler Hope Network. 

~ Naloxone (Narcan) overdose reversal meds available locally and test strips to identify if fentanyl is present in a substance, were acquired through council grants. 

~One on one sessions and group gatherings in a peer recovery support program, provided through Minnesota Prevention Recovery Alliance — Know the Truth.  An Opioid Council staffperson reports over 600 Chisago County students went through this education,  either in classroom presentations or individual sessions.

The 2025 grant winners will be determined at the July 16 County Board regular meeting and appropriations go out in August.
