We have lost our marbles.....
From time to time, I have been accused of being too negative in my columns. Hard to believe I know, but if you happen to be one or more of those individuals who have told me this before, I suggest you try back here next week.
Now onto the events last weekend... “WHAT THE H IS HAPPENING WITH OUR WORLD RIGHT NOW??” Every day (yes every day) something new and more shocking is taking place in our country. This weekend Minnesota was in the spotlight for insaneness (Is that a word? It is now). We are now killing politicians because their ideals don’t align with ours? Are you joking? I don’t align with plenty of peoples’ perspectives on politics, but would I get a gun to settle it? Never ever.
I have found it easier to get by in life to just hear people out on whatever side politically they stand, and move on. The very few times I have spoken my mind it has backfired in my face. This whole fight first, ask questions later mentality is just flat out embarrassing. Come on world - we can do better. We HAVE to do better.
The City of Lindstrom and the Lindstrom Downtown Business Group would like to formally invite you and your family to the Midsommar event in downtown Lindstrom this week. The event will celebrate the return of steam rising from the historic coffee pot water tower, after sitting dormant for 30 years. The weekend will be filled with fun events including music, a maypole, kids games, a petting zoo, a dunk tank and much more. There will also be games for the adults including kubb, hard Yahtzee, slippery fish, and the vote for the GOAT which will honor one of four locals nominated for their hard work and volunteer dedication to our community.
If you have driven through the city you may have noticed a new mural being painted on the west side of the municipal liquor store. The mural will be officially unveiled at the event as well as a proclamation making June 21 officially Marlene Smith Day. Smith donated funding transforming the coffee pot out of the old water tower.
The weekend long event begins Thursday (tonight) with the 2025/26 Chisago Lakes Ambassador coronation at Lions Park at 6pm. Friday midsummer keeps rolling with downtown shopping and sidewalk sales.
Saturday is filled with the events mentioned prior as well as so much more.
Please see page 9 for a full page listing of all the events and their times. The neat thing about this event is that it is located in a condensed area of downtown Lindstrom so you are never more than a few seconds walk to any of the events or shops.
The water tower will steam for the first time in 30 years at 3pm on Saturday then again at 10am and 3pm on Sunday. We will let you know the permanent steaming schedule when we get it.
So much to do, but what a great way to kick off the summer! See you there!
